How to choose a digital agency in Hyderabad: a checklist for SMBs
What to look for, what to avoid, and the questions to ask before signing any contract with a digital agency — from someone who has seen both sides.
The Hyderabad digital agency market is crowded
There are hundreds of digital agencies, freelancers and studios in Hyderabad — from one-person operations to large firms with 100+ staff. The quality variance is enormous. Some are excellent. Many are not. And the marketing all looks the same.
This checklist is written from the perspective of someone who has been on both sides — as a client evaluating agencies for Fortune 500 projects, and as an agency owner. Use it before signing any digital services contract.
What to check before you even talk to them
- Look at their own website critically. If it's slow, hard to navigate or uses a generic template, that's how they'll build yours.
- Check their Google Business Profile. Reviews, photos, update recency — these signal how they treat their own digital presence.
- Look for case studies with real numbers. "We increased traffic" is not a case study. "We increased organic traffic 340% in 6 months for a CA firm in Bangalore" is.
- Check how long they've been operating. Not because new agencies are bad — but longevity suggests they deliver enough value to retain clients.
- Search for their reviews on Google and Justdial. A pattern of complaints about communication or deliverables is a serious red flag.
Questions to ask in the first meeting
- Who specifically will work on my project? (Not "our team" — a named person and their experience)
- Can I speak with two or three current or past clients directly?
- What does your process look like between brief and delivery?
- How do you handle scope changes and additional requests?
- What does your post-launch support look like and what does it cost?
- Who owns the website and all assets at the end of the project?
- What technology will you build on and why?
Red flags that should make you walk away
- They can't show you case studies with real outcomes — only pretty screenshots
- They promise page-one Google rankings within 30 days
- The contract retains IP ownership for the agency, not the client
- They can't tell you specifically who will work on your project
- They push a specific platform (usually WordPress or Wix) without asking about your requirements first
- The proposal arrives within 24 hours of the first meeting with no discovery process
- No clear revision and change management process
What good looks like
A good digital agency in Hyderabad will: ask more questions than they answer in the first meeting, give you an honest assessment of what's achievable rather than just telling you what you want to hear, show you work they've done with measurable outcomes, give you a fixed-price proposal with clear scope, and tell you exactly who will work on your project.
The best agencies are the ones who turn down projects that aren't right for them — because they value their reputation more than the revenue. If an agency agrees to everything and promises everything, be cautious.
